Turkey has announced a natural gas discovery of 75 billion cubic meters, worth $30 billion, in the Black Sea, according to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
During a speech in Istanbul on Saturday, Erdoğan said the discovery came after 49 days of drilling in the Göktepe 3 field in Sakarya and would meet domestic demand for three and a half years.
In 2020, Turkey discovered 320 billion cubic meters of natural gas, the largest ever discovery in the Black Sea.
Erdoğan emphasized that the country will continue exploration "until we achieve our goal of complete energy independence."
