The Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced on Wednesday that an F-16 fighter jet crashed in Balıkesir province in northwestern Turkey, killing its pilot.
The ministry stated in a press release, reported by the Turkish channel TRT in its English version, that radio contact and tracking information were lost with the aircraft shortly after it took off from the 9th Air Base Command in Balıkesir at approximately 12:56 AM local time. Search and rescue operations were immediately launched, and the wreckage was later located.
The ministry added that the pilot was killed in the crash and expressed its condolences to his family. It confirmed that the cause of the crash will be determined through an investigation conducted by a specialized team.
