Turkey is gearing up for a significant presence at the 2025 Alexandria Film Festival, with plans to showcase feature films, short films, and children's movies. Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Salih Mutlu Şen, shared the country's ambitions during his meeting with Alexandria’s Governor, Lieutenant General Ahmed Khaled, on October 2nd. The meeting took place during the opening of the 40th Alexandria Mediterranean Film Festival.

Ambassador Şen expressed his gratitude to Governor Khaled for his continued support of Turkish investments in the Borg El Arab area of Alexandria. He emphasized the importance of building strong cultural ties between Turkey and Egypt, pointing out their shared cinematic history that spans over a thousand years.

In addition to his discussions with Governor Khaled, Ambassador Şen also met with Egypt's Minister of Culture, Professor Ahmed Hanou, where both sides discussed future cultural collaborations. These talks come on the heels of a recent visit by an Egyptian delegation, led by the Chairman of the Federation of Artistic Syndicates. During this visit, plans were made to launch a "Turkish Film Week" in Egypt in the coming years.

Ambassador Şen underscored the deep historical and cultural connections between Turkey and Egypt, describing their shared history as a "cultural treasure" that remains underexplored. He highlighted that many of the figures central to this heritage are buried in both Istanbul and Cairo, their stories yet to be fully uncovered.

According to Ambassador Şen, much of this cultural wealth is hidden in historical monuments, public fountains, mausoleums, manuscripts, mosques, and palaces that stretch across Istanbul and Cairo. He believes these cultural treasures can be passed on to future generations through the power of storytelling and cinema.
