Tunisia's Government to Reopen Mosques Next Week after Drop in Corona Cases

Ibrahim Chebbi, Minister of Religious Affairs in Tunisia, decided to resume various religious activities in mosques across the country, including Quranic lessons and ablution places.

In the same context, the Minister stressed the need to continue adhering to the health protocol and to intensify sterilization and cleaning operations.

Last August, Tunisia announced the resumption of Friday prayers in mosques in a number of provinces while adhering to the mosque's health protocols, as well as the resumption of weekly market activity.

In this context, the Director of Religious Affairs in the state of Kebili, Tunisia, Mohamed Mansouri, stated that the resumption of Friday prayers was approved in 5 out of 7 regions in the state located in the south of the country, following the recorded breakthrough in the epidemiological situation at a national level.

It is noteworthy that the establishment of prayers in mosques has been suspended since last June 25 in a number of internal provinces in Tunisia, while they continue to be suspended in some other regions, which are still recording a high level of infections with the “Coronavirus(known also as COVID-19).

On the seventeenth of last January, the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Tunisia announced that mosques will reopen their doors again for religious rites.

The ministry confirmed - in a statement on its official page - that this would not have happened without everyone's patience and almost total adherence to what was stated in the precautionary health protocol to prevent infection with the Coronavirus, as no cases of infection or infection were recorded in mosques and mosques.

The ministry called on mosque-goers to ensure the implementation of the health protocol and to follow the necessary health measures, and the measures mentioned by the ministry include ablution at home, bringing special carpets, and wearing protective masks while emphasizing the necessity of respecting the physical distance of at least one meter between worshipers.
