Tunisian taekwondo player Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi won a gold or silver medal in the men’s 58 kg category after qualifying for the final on Saturday. He defeated South Korean star John Jang,
19-year-old Jendoubi took the grand total 25-19 after the first round ended in a 5-5 draw, and the Tunisian won the last two rounds 4-3 and 16-11 against John (aged 21).
Jendoubi is on the cusp of winning the first Arab medal at the Tokyo Olympics, whose games officially kicked off Friday night, after a year-long delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The young Tunisian reached the semi-finals by beating Ethiopian Solomon Demsey in the quarter-finals by points difference with a final score of 32-9.
