Tunisian President Kais Saied announced the decision to restore diplomatic relations with Syria.
This step was preceded by a call phone days earlier between Nabil Ammar, the Tunisian Foreign Minister on March 4 with his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mekdad, to discuss the restoration of relations between the two countries.
During a meeting he had with the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs yesterday, Saeed touched on the return of Tunisia's diplomatic representation in Syria, saying that "there is no justification for Tunisia not having an ambassador in Damascus in the Syrian Arab Republic, and an ambassador for Syria in Tunisia," without setting a date for that.
The President of Tunisia explained
that “the issue of the regime in Syria concerns the Syrians alone, and Tunisia is dealing with the Syrian state.
