Today, Tuesday, Tunisian Prime Minister (PM) Hisham Al-Mechishi sacked Minister of Interior Tawfiq Sharaf Al-Din, Minister of Interior. However, informed sources from the Tunisian presidency reported that Tunisia's President Kais Saied rejected the decision to fire Sharaf al-Din.
The decision made by the Tunisian Premier makes the political conflict in the country take an upward turn between the two heads of the executive authority in the coming days (the presidency and the premiership).
Tunisian government sources revealed that the background of the exemption is disagreements between Al-Mechishi and his interior minister, over the death of a person the day before yesterday by the Tunisian security forces in the province of Monastir (the coast of the country).
The sources pointed out that the differences between Al-Mechishi and his Interior Minister began since the formation of the government- the minister of Interior is considered one of the figures affiliated with the Tunisian President Kais Saied.
According to the same sources, Tunisian President Kais Saied and Al-Mechishi combined inconsistent relations after the militia joined forces with the Ennahda Movement, the Heart of Tunisia party, and the Al-Karammah Coalition, which belongs to the Muslim Brotherhood movement in Tunisia.
Al-Mechishi took over the portfolio of the Ministry of the Interior himself, which is considered a precedent in Tunisia’s history since the mid-1980's (when former President Ben Ali assumed the presidency of the government and the Ministry of the Interior at the same time).
