Tunisia Offers to Host Libyan National Dialogue to Solve Ongoing Crisis

On Wednesday,  Tunisian President "Kais Saied" offered to host a Libyan national dialogue that brings together the various components of the people, as part of his country's efforts to solve the crisis of the eastern neighbor.

During his meeting with Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya Stephanie Williams, Saied stressed the constants of his country's position on the Libyan crisis, calling for a comprehensive political settlement that preserves the unity and sovereignty of Libya within the framework of an inclusive Libyan dialogue under the umbrella of the United Nations.

The Tunisian president stressed the importance of the role of neighboring countries in pushing for a peaceful solution to this crisis, referring to the coordination and consultations between Tunisia and Algeria in order to achieve stability in Libya.

The Tunisian president renewed welcoming the ceasefire agreement in Libya, as an important step towards restoring stability and resuming the political process, stressing Tunisia's commitment to continue supporting the efforts of the UN mission to achieve its noble goals.

The president also reiterated Tunisia's readiness to continue standing by the Libyan people by laying out its capabilities and expertise to achieve stability and rebuild institutions, and to contribute to re-launching the political process by hosting a national dialogue that brings together the various components of the Libyan people.

In a statement after the meeting, Williams expressed the United Nations thanks to Tunisia for its continuous support for the efforts of the UN mission in Libya.

She added that "The only solution to the crisis in Libya is a peaceful and political solution," noting "the need to go to political dialogue as soon as possible given the dangerous conditions in Libya at the present time."
