Thousands of supporters of opposition parties and national organizations in Tunisia took to the streets of the capital today to celebrate the anniversary of the revolution, and protest against the deterioration of the national economic conditions, and the policies of President Kais Saied.
Today's protests came amid escalating political divisions, on the twelfth anniversary of the outbreak of the Tunisian revolution.
On Habib Bourguiba Street, demonstrators from supporters of the National Salvation Front, which includes a coalition of parties opposed to President Kais Saied, chanted the slogan "The people want the fall of the regime", which was launched by protesters at the height of the uprising against the rule of the late President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, in 2010.
The parties affiliated with the "Salvation Front", most notably the "Islamic Ennahda Movement", boycotted the referendum on the new constitution and the parliamentary elections on December 17.
The opposition parties demanded that President Saied step down from power, establish a rescue government to manage a transitional period, and embark on constitutional reforms.
