US President Donald Trump told Israel's Channel 12 on Monday that during his tense 24-hour conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he warned him that if Israeli attacks escalate into a full-blown war, he could find himself alone against the Iranians.
"I told Netanyahu, you better be very careful what you do, because you could find yourself alone against Iran very soon," Trump added. The US president indicated that he had asked Netanyahu in their conversation the previous night not to retaliate against the Iranian missile attack.
According to Channel 12, the conversation ended without a clear outcome. Netanyahu did not disclose his decision, and those who overheard the conversation said they felt Trump had managed to gain a few more days from Netanyahu.
Later, Netanyahu entered into consultations with the heads of the defense establishment and then returned to inform Secretary of State Marco Rubio that he had decided to attack Iran. Trump described what happened next, saying: "The Israelis gave us a very late update. They were already on their way to Iran. I was able to reduce the scale of the attack."
