US President Donald Trump has intensified his warnings to Iran, saying that 1,000 missiles are ready to be launched against the country if Tehran carries out or attempts to carry out an assassination plot against him.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the missiles had already been prepared and targeted, with thousands more available for immediate deployment.
He added that orders had been issued to the US military to respond with overwhelming force if the Iranian government acted on alleged threats to assassinate the serving US president.
Trump also claimed that the US military was prepared to maintain this capability for at least one year, with the possibility of extending the period.
The president made similar remarks in an interview with the New York Post on Friday, saying he had left instructions for Iran to be struck on an unprecedented scale if an assassination attempt against him succeeded.
Trump claimed that Tehran had sought to kill him for several years and described himself as a longstanding priority on Iran’s alleged list of targets.
Responding to reports that Israel had provided Washington with new intelligence about a possible Iranian assassination plot, Trump said the threats were not new and denied that Israel had supplied any significantly new information.
CNN had reported, citing unnamed sources, that Israel recently shared intelligence with the United States concerning an alleged Iranian plan to target Trump.
According to the report, US agencies had already received repeated warnings in recent weeks about possible threats, while the Israeli information concerned a more specific alleged plot.
