U.S. President Donald Trump told ABC News in response to Israel’s call for American involvement in the war against Iran, “We are not involved at this moment, but it’s possible we might join.”
Trump also expressed openness to Russian mediation between Israel and Iran, stating: “Yes, I’m open to it, and Putin is ready as well. He called me about it, and we talked more about this issue than we did about the war in Ukraine... I believe this will be resolved.”
Earlier on Sunday, Trump posted on his social media platform: “The United States had nothing to do with the strike on Iran on Saturday night,” warning of consequences if Iran were to retaliate against the U.S.
He also urged Iran to pursue a diplomatic agreement.
The military escalation between Iran and Israel has now entered its third day.
On Friday at dawn, Tel Aviv launched a series of intense airstrikes targeting Iranian territory, marking one of the most severe attacks on Iran in recent years.
In retaliation, Iranian authorities fired multiple missile barrages early Saturday in response to the strikes.
