WASHINGTON, JAN 10 (see)- President Donald Trump said the United States is making positive progress in its trade negotiations with China.

Dow Jones and the Standard & Poor's 500 (S&P) marked a fourth straight gain after US-China trade talks

sparked optimism.

This comes a day after US and Chinese officials concluded their three days of negotiations in Beijing.

The meetings were the first direct talks between the two sides since Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Buenos Aires last December, in which the two leaders agreed on a 90-day truce in a trade war that obstructed the flow of hundreds of billions of dollars worth of goods.

Republican President Trump has accused China of fraud charges through the alleged theft of American intellectual property rights, yet praised personal relationship with Jinping.

"We are negotiating and achieving great success with China," Trump told reporters as he left for the US border with Mexico.

On the 20th day of the partial closure of the US government, Trump still faces difficulties with Democrats over his demand for $ 5.7 billion to finance a steel barrier with Mexico.

The dispute has led to the closure of about a quarter of the federal government.

Trump said he would not sign any draft law to reopen government institutions that did not support the funding of the wall.

"I think dealing with China is much easier than dealing with Democrats," he added.
