Trump Urges Congress to End Partial Government Shutdown

Former President Donald Trump has called on Congress to swiftly end the partial shutdown of the U.S. federal government. Posting on his platform Truth Social, Trump stated he is working closely with House Republican Leader Mike Johnson to pass the budget in the House and send it to the White House, where he will sign it into law immediately.

The partial government shutdown began on Saturday after the House of Representatives failed to pass the necessary budget legislation before the 30 January deadline.

While the Senate reached a last-minute compromise on temporary funding on Friday, the House is not expected to vote on the new budget bills until Tuesday, after which Trump will sign them into law.

Trump warned that prolonged gridlock would cause unnecessary damage, writing: “We cannot have another long, futile, and destructive shutdown that will cause great harm to our country.”

The partial closure follows the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, which lasted 43 days and ended in November.
