U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff announced that a high-level meeting on Gaza will be held at the White House on Wednesday, chaired by former President Donald Trump.
According to Witkoff, the meeting will be “a major one” and will focus on humanitarian assistance and planning for the “day after” the current war in Gaza. He emphasized that the Trump team is preparing “a very comprehensive plan” for post-war arrangements in the territory.
Witkoff also signaled optimism about a potential breakthrough in the coming months. “We believe the issue in Gaza will be resolved one way or another, and certainly before the end of this year,” he said, as reported by Al-Qahera News.
Addressing the question of detainees, Witkoff stressed that the release of Israeli hostages remains a priority and suggested that it would be matched by the release of a similar number of Palestinian prisoners.
He added that Hamas has begun “hinting at openness to a settlement,” but underscored that both Israel and Trump insist the group will have no role in any future governing structure in Gaza.
