US President-Elect Donald Trump will have his inauguration and swear-in with the Flags lowered to half-staff.
President Joe Biden ordered the US flags to be lowered at half-staff for 30 days from Sunday in honor of Jimmy Carter, the longest-lived American president who died at 100.
This means that flags will remain lowered when Trump has his inauguration for a second presidential term on January 20. He will be the first to take the oath while US flags are lowered.
The US flag code requires flags to be flown at half-staff for 30 days from the death of a sitting or former president.
President Joe Biden paid homage to Carter, describing him as a man of principle, faith, and humility. “The United States and the world have lost an extraordinary leader, statesman, and humanitarian,” Biden said in a heartfelt statement.
Jimmy Carter, who served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, passed away at the age of 100 at his home in Plains, Georgia. For nearly two years, Carter had been receiving hospice care, according to reports from the Carter Center and major outlets like The Washington Post and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. His son confirmed that Carter died peacefully on Sunday afternoon.
