White House Press Secretary Carolyn Leavitt warned CBS News that President Donald Trump would sue if they did not air the full interview they conducted with him.
According to The New York Times, CBS News anchor Tony Dokobell interviewed Trump last Tuesday. After the interview was recorded, Leavitt passed on a message from the president to the anchor and his colleagues.
In his message, Trump said, “Make sure you don’t cut the tape. Make sure you air the full interview.” Dokobell replied, “Yes, we will.” He added that if it wasn’t aired in its entirety, “We will sue.” Dokobell said that Trump always says that.
CBS News aired the interview in its entirety. In a statement to The New York Times, the network said that CBS News made an independent decision to air the interview unedited and in its entirety.
Leavitt told the Times that the American people deserved to see the full, unedited interview with Trump. The interview was subsequently broadcast in its entirety.
