President Donald Trump threatened Saturday to deploy ICE agents to take over security screenings at US airports, where wait times can stretch for hours due to a shortage of specialized personnel who are not being paid as a result of the partial government shutdown.
The Republican president wrote on his Truth Social social media platform, "Unless the far-left Democrats immediately sign an agreement that allows our country, and especially our airports, to be free and safe again, I will deploy our brilliant and patriotic ICE agents to the airports, where they will take over security."
The US Department of Homeland Security entered a partial shutdown on February 14, which is expected to last for an extended period due to a lack of funding, stemming from the dispute between Democrats and Republicans over immigration management practices.
