U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States will bomb Iran "very hard" tonight, adding that Washington will seize Iran's Kharg Island at some point in the near future.
Trump revealed that high-ranking Iranian officials contacted him directly to request a halt to U.S. airstrikes, according to Fox News Chief Foreign Correspondent Trey Yingst.
The American network reported that the contact represents a rare and critical moment of direct communication between Trump and the Iranian leadership. This development comes at a time when the President stated that Washington had launched "fierce" and "violent" strikes earlier in the day.
Trump also told Fox News that the U.S. operation involved the deployment of 49 Tomahawk missiles, alongside fighter jets that targeted radar and air defense systems. The strikes reportedly targeted sites about 40 miles outside Tehran and along Iran's southwestern coast.
"We're going to hit them very hard tomorrow," Trump warned, signaling that the United States is prepared to rapidly escalate military action if Tehran does not soon sign an agreement to end the ongoing crisis.
He further acknowledged that the ceasefire with Iran is "the most violated ceasefire in the history of the world."
