Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump filed a lawsuit on Thursday against CBS News, accusing the network of manipulating an interview with Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris for its "60 Minutes" program earlier this month.
Trump is seeking $10 billion in damages, asserting that CBS's actions interfered with the US election process.
The 19-page lawsuit claims that CBS engaged in "partisan and unlawful conduct" by selectively editing Harris’s responses to portray her in a more favorable light, which Trump argues is an attempt to influence voter opinions.
Trump’s legal team asserts that several of Harris's answers were deliberately omitted to give a more positive impression of her stance on key issues. The lawsuit demands CBS broadcast the unedited, complete interview, including responses previously removed.
Trump expressed strong discontent over CBS's handling of the interview, specifically pointing to segments aired on CBS’s "Face the Nation" that he claims were manipulated to depict Harris’s responses to questions about the Gaza conflict.
According to Trump’s attorneys, CBS’s selective editing of Harris’s answers was a "deceptive act" meant to harm Trump’s electoral chances by influencing public perception of his Democratic opponents.
