Outgoing US President Donald Trump said in a tweet on Friday that he will not attend the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on January 20, hours after he pledged a smooth transition of power.

Trump pledged to continue supporting his fans and to have a "big role", a day after he published a video in which he promised a peaceful transition of power after Congress officially approved Joe Biden's victory in the presidential elections after some of the outgoing president's supporters stormed the Capitol building.

Trump tweeted that about 75 million people who voted for him "Will have a big role in the future and they will not be scorned or treated unfairly in any way or another," without stating any other details.

The outgoing president said in a tweet that "To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th."

Moreover, he added that will leave the White House for his Florida resort, a day before Biden's inauguration.
