U.S. President Donald Trump said he would ask Chinese President Xi Jinping to work on opening China’s markets, amid expectations of high-level talks between Washington and Beijing against the backdrop of rising geopolitical and economic tensions.

Trump’s remarks came as international attention focused on a potential summit in Beijing expected to address several strategic issues, including tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and broader trade relations between the world’s two largest economies.

The anticipated discussions come amid growing concerns over the impact of regional instability on global energy supplies and trade flows, particularly as China relies heavily on energy imports from the Middle East.

According to international media reports, Beijing is seeking to avoid any escalation that could disrupt shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a key corridor for global oil exports, while Washington continues efforts to manage trade and geopolitical disputes with China.

Tensions linked to the Strait of Hormuz and Taiwan remain among the main areas of disagreement between the two powers, alongside ongoing disputes over market access and economic policies.

The expected talks are also seen as an attempt to preserve diplomatic channels and prevent further deterioration in relations amid signs of stalled negotiations in recent months.
