US President Donald Trump said that Ethiopia built a dam on the Nile River with funding from the United States, expressing surprise over Washington’s decision to support the project.
In remarks reported as breaking news by Al Qahera News, Trump stated that he did not understand why the United States had financed the dam, noting that the project was constructed on the Nile, a river of critical importance to downstream countries.
Trump also said that he personally intervened in the crisis surrounding Ethiopia’s dam in an attempt to resolve the dispute, without providing further details on the nature or outcome of that intervention.
The statements come amid long-standing tensions over Ethiopia’s dam project on the Nile, which has raised concerns in Egypt and Sudan over water security and regional stability.
