Trump Pledges to Take Action Against EVs if Elected

In his bid for the presidency, former President Donald Trump has vowed to take decisive action against electric vehicles (EVs), pledging to end their mandates on his first day back in office.

This commitment came during his speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

Trump criticized current President Joe Biden’s policies on electric vehicles, stating that eliminating these mandates would save the American auto industry from what he describes as its imminent collapse.

He argued that this move would also result in substantial savings for American consumers.

Although the Biden administration does not have a specific mandate for electric vehicles, critics have raised concerns about new air pollution limits set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in March.

These critics argue that such regulations could force automakers to shift to electric vehicles, which they claim could be an overreach.

Trump's remarks on electric vehicles were made shortly before he lambasted what he called extravagant spending related to the “Green New Deal.”

He proposed redirecting funds to infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and dams, although details on how he plans to implement these changes were not immediately clear.

Trump has been vocal in his disdain for electric vehicles, asserting that they are ineffective and primarily benefit countries like China and Mexico while harming American auto workers.

In contrast, Biden has championed the transition to battery-powered cars as a cornerstone of his climate and industrial policies, aiming for 50% of all new vehicle sales to be electric by 2030.
