US President Donald Trump has announced plans to host a major Ultimate Fighting Championship event at the White House to celebrate his 80th birthday on June 14.
The announcement was made Sunday via Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, reflecting his long-standing interest in mixed martial arts. Initial plans had reportedly considered holding the event on July 4 to coincide with the 250th anniversary of US independence.
Trump attended a UFC event in Miami on Saturday alongside family members and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The appearance came as Vice President JD Vance announced from Pakistan that talks between the US and Iran had failed to reach an agreement.
The UFC is the world’s leading mixed martial arts promotion, combining disciplines such as boxing, kickboxing, and wrestling in full-contact bouts inside a cage.
The June 14 event, also marking Flag Day in the US, is expected to feature a lightweight title fight between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje. A second headline bout is set to include Alex Pereira facing Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight title.
The planned event would be unprecedented, potentially bringing professional mixed martial arts to the grounds of the White House for the first time and drawing global attention to the celebration.
