On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump dismissed the Inspector General of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Paul Martin.
The decision came one day after Martin's office published a report that "strongly criticized" the Trump administration's actions regarding the agency.
A few weeks ago, Trump issued an order to freeze most foreign aid, suspending funds used by the agency to support development projects worldwide.
Martin was informed by an email from the Office of Presidential Personnel deputy director on Tuesday evening that his position as inspector general of USAID was “terminated, effective immediately.”
A spokesperson for the USAID Office of Inspector General confirmed Martin’s termination.
