US officials are reportedly weighing the launch of a new online platform that would help patients purchase prescription medications at lower prices directly from pharmaceutical companies — a move that may carry the name of former President Donald Trump.

According to a Bloomberg report, the proposed site would allow users to search for specific drugs and connect with platforms that offer them at reduced rates. One of the naming options being considered is “Trump Rx”, potentially branding the initiative with Trump’s widely recognized name.

The idea comes as part of broader efforts to pressure pharmaceutical companies to cut costs, aligning US drug prices more closely with those seen in other developed nations.

Although no official announcement has been made, the plan reflects ongoing pressure from Trump and his allies to address high drug costs — a long-standing issue for American consumers.

Both the White House and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have yet to publicly comment on the reported proposal.

If realized, the Trump drug discount platform could become a cornerstone of future Republican health care messaging, leveraging Trump's political influence in the lead-up to the 2024 elections.

The proposal also echoes earlier Trump-era attempts to introduce international price indexing and increased transparency in pharmaceutical pricing — both controversial and only partially implemented during his term.

For now, patients and policymakers await further clarification on whether the plan will move beyond the discussion stage.
