US President Donald Trump, in remarks reported by Axios, said he wants to be personally involved in choosing Iran's new leader following recent developments in the country.
Trump added that Mojtaba Khamenei, the Iranian Supreme Leader's son, is the most likely candidate to succeed his father, but stressed that this choice is "unacceptable," arguing that Mojtaba is a weak figure incapable of leading the country.
Trump emphasized that choosing a leader who continues Ali Khamenei's policies could lead to a new war within five years, adding that the United States wants a new Iranian leadership that "brings peace and harmony" to the country.
