U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he held a "very good and productive" telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The announcement comes just hours before Trump is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Florida this Sunday.
Taking to his platform, "X" (formerly Twitter), Trump wrote: "I just had a very good and productive phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin prior to my 1:00 P.M. meeting today (Sunday local time) with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. The meeting will be held in the Main Dining Room at Mar-a-Lago. The media is invited to attend."
Zelenskyy and Trump are set to meet at the Mar-a-Lago estate to discuss a potential plan to end the war in Ukraine.
Despite the scheduled talks, both leaders face significant hurdles, including deep-seated disagreements over critical issues and the ongoing provocations stemming from intensified Russian airstrikes.
The meeting is seen as a pivotal moment in the search for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict.
While Trump has repeatedly signaled his intent to broker a deal quickly, the complexities of the territorial and security demands from both the Russian and Ukrainian sides remain a formidable challenge.
