Former U.S President Donald Trump responded Wednesday to the Facebook ban on his accounts, calling it a “total disgrace”, promising that big tech will pay a 'political price' for taking away his free speech.
In an email to supporters, Trump fumed: “What Facebook, Twitter, and Google have done is a total disgrace and an embarrassment to our Country.”
Trump went on saying that free speech has been taken away from him because the Radical Left Lunatics are afraid of the truth.
“The People of our Country will not stand for it! These corrupt social media companies must pay a political price, and must never again be allowed to destroy and decimate our Electoral Process,” he said.
The Facebook Oversight Board announced Wednesday that Trump will remain banned on Facebook.
Moreover, the Board added that Facebook must review the matter in the next six months to decide a “appropriate penalty” that must be based on the gravity of the violation and the prospect of future harm.
It also stressed that Facebook should determine a response that is consistent with rules applied to other users of the platform.
Trump was banned by Twitter and suspended by Facebook and YouTube after the Capitol riots in January.
Accordingly, the former president has launched a new "communications" website, which says it will publish content "straight from the desk" of the former U.S. president.
"It is a blog," Kara Swisher, technology columnist for the New York Times told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
"I don't know what the overall plan is because he does have some very sharp digital advisers. It is just the beginning of his attempts to try to re-establish a louder ability to participate in digital media."
On his part, the former president's Senior Adviser Jason Miller had previously said a new social media platform was to be launched. "This new platform is going to be big," he said in March.
