Former US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he is filing a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against the New York Times, accusing the newspaper of acting as the de facto voice of the radical left within the Democratic Party.
Trump stated on his Truth Social platform that the New York Times had, for decades, published falsehoods about him, his family, his business interests, and his political movements, such as America First and Make America Great Again.
He added that the lawsuit will be filed in Florida, marking what he described as the end of the paper’s long-standing campaign to distort his reputation.
The former president further labelled the New York Times as one of the most corrupt newspapers in American history and accused it of openly supporting Vice President Kamala Harris during the most recent presidential campaign.
This is not Trump’s first legal confrontation with the media. In July, he filed a separate lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal seeking at least $10 billion in damages, after it published claims linking him to financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
