Former US President Donald Trump has extended the deadline for the Chinese tech giant ByteDance to sell its US TikTok operations by an additional 90 days, pushing it beyond the original June 19 cutoff.
The White House confirmed the move, despite existing legislation mandating a sale or shutdown of the app if no significant progress is made.
This marks the third extension granted since Congress passed the initial ban, which was due to take effect in January.
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump will sign a new executive order this week to ensure TikTok remains operational in the United States during this transition period.
