US President Donald Trump expressed his regret regarding the events in Lebanon, placing blame on Israel for what is happening in the region.
Speaking at a press conference during the G7 Summit in France, Trump stated: "I feel very badly for Lebanon... Israel could have handled Hezbollah better."
Nevertheless, Trump returned to discussing Israel, describing it as a "good partner" to the United States, but reiterated that it could have handled Hezbollah better. He continued: "I’m not saying they shouldn’t protect themselves. I’m saying when two drones fly into the desert and land without doing any damage, you don’t have to knock down buildings in Beirut."
Trump added: "They could do better. Frankly, they could do a better job... I love them as a partner. They are great. But they could do a much better job with Hezbollah on this. I don't think they're handling it well. And I feel very badly for Lebanon."
He then spoke about Lebanon's "great culture," describing it as having been filled with professors, doctors, and lawyers.
He said: "It was a wonderful culture, probably the finest in the Middle East for many years, even centuries. And over the last 50 or 60 years, those buildings have been defaced and neglected... They have lived through hell."
