US President Donald Trump said in an interview with the "Pod Force One" program published on Wednesday that he expects to meet Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, adding that the relationship between the two warring leaders is very good despite the stalling of peace talks.

According to the New York Post, the 56-year-old Mojtaba has not appeared in public since the outbreak of the war on February 28 following surprise US-Israeli airstrikes, which resulted in his injury and the death of his father, the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with several members of his family.

Speaking about Khamenei the son, whose isolation has prolonged the peace talks conducted via regular mail, Trump said that he is involved, absolutely.

He added that he thinks they have a lot of respect for him. Trump further noted that he has not had the honor of meeting him, adding that if one believes the stories, he is missing out on many aspects of his life.

Trump continued by saying that they say he gives his approval, because that has been the case for a long time, first his father and then him, describing it as a succession process.

However, he noted that their relationship seems to be very good. When asked about the possibility of a meeting, Trump said that he would like to meet him, adding that he likes to meet everyone and that they might meet at some point depending on how things go.

Trump has unconventionally welcomed direct communication with other adversaries of the United States, arguing that this non-traditional approach can build relationships that make the country safer.

During his first term, Trump exchanged what he described as "love letters" with nuclear-armed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and met with him three times, which contributed to easing nuclear tensions.
