US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he has tasked Elon Musk, whom he appointed to head the Department of Government Efficiency, with conducting a review of the Defense Department's proposed budget for the current year of $850 billion.
When asked if the defense sector was on Musk's spending-cutting agenda, Trump told reporters at the White House, "I have directed him to go to education and the Pentagon, which is the military. And as you know, unfortunately, you will find very bad things."
In the same context, Democratic members of Congress are seeking an investigation by the Treasury Department into the access granted to Elon Musk's team to the government payment system, citing "threats to the economy and national security, and potential violations of laws that protect Americans' privacy and tax information."
Meantime, Time magazine featured, on its front page, Elon Musk sitting in an office resembling that of US President Donald Trump in the White House.
The magazine wrote in its analysis the story of the raging conflict between Musk and the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which he succeeded in stopping.
