U.S. President Donald Trump has instructed his advisers to seek a diplomatic resolution to the conflict with Iran, according to sources familiar with the matter cited by CNN.
U.S. officials are holding internal discussions on the possibility of a second round of talks with Iranian counterparts, the sources said, as Washington explores avenues to ease tensions.
The directive points to a potential shift toward de-escalation, with the administration weighing renewed engagement alongside other policy options.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for "calm and restraint" from all parties involved, following the U.S. announcement of a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
He also noted that Beijing maintains that the only way to resolve the crisis is through political means, including an immediate ceasefire and the end of hostilities.
