President Trump signed an executive order on Thursday making Christmas Eve, December 24, and December 26, also known as Boxing Day, federal holidays this year.

As a result, federal agencies will be closed from Wednesday through Friday next week, since Christmas Day is already a federal holiday.

However, the order allows agency leaders to require certain offices to stay open and some employees to work on December 24 or December 26 if necessary.

This is not the first time Trump has taken this action. During his first term, he declared Christmas Eve a federal holiday in both 2019 and 2020.

In 2014, former President Obama designated December 26 as a federal holiday when Christmas fell on a Thursday.

Earlier this year, in May, Trump also declared November 11 and May 8 as national holidays to mark victories in World War I and World War II.

With the addition of Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, there are 13 federal holidays this year.

These include New Year’s Day, January 20 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Trump’s inauguration, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day.
