US President Donald Trump has said he is close to deciding whether to launch a major new military attack on Iran, telling Axios that American forces are fully prepared to carry out the operation.
Trump said he was seriously considering the resumption of expanded military action, describing the potential attack as larger than any previous US operation against Iran.
He claimed that Iranian officials wanted to negotiate but were not yet prepared to reach an agreement because they had “not felt enough pain”.
Trump also said Israel could join the attacks within minutes if Washington requested its participation.
However, he added that the United States did not currently need Israeli involvement and warned that Israel’s direct participation could have serious consequences across the region.
