Former US President Donald Trump celebrated the appointment of North Korea to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Trump's celebration came through a post on his social networking platform "Truth Social", where he wrote "Congratulations to Kim Jong Un", with his name written incorrectly, according to the "Eurasia Dairy" website.

Trump attached his congratulations to an article about the North Korean official, who was recently elected to the WHO Executive Board.

Jung Min Pak of the North Korean Ministry of Public Health will take a seat on the WHO Executive Board, and his term is scheduled to last until 2026.

North Korea's new position on the WHO Board of Directors allows it to participate in defining its political agenda and prescriptions.

The decision drew immediate criticism from the government of neighboring South Korea, which pointed to North Korea's history of ignoring policies set by the WHO.

It is noteworthy that Trump is the first US president to meet Kim, and that was in the first summit meeting between a US president and a North Korean leader in June 2018 in Singapore.

In February 2019, the two leaders held their second summit in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi.

In April, Trump described the North Korean leader as "clever, cunning, and ruthless."
