U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Saturday that he sees the necessity of a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, "I believe President Putin and President Zelensky should meet."
On Friday, Trump had asserted that Zelensky has no strong bargaining position in negotiations with Russia and suggested that his presence in talks might not be essential.
In late January, Zelensky expressed openness to negotiations with Putin, but only on the condition that the new U.S. president ensures Ukraine’s security.
