U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday called for the immediate resignation of Intel’s newly appointed CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, amid rising concerns over his alleged investments in Chinese tech firms, including some with links to China's military.
In a sharply worded post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said he was “deeply puzzled” by Tan’s position at the helm of the American chipmaking giant, adding, “There is no other solution to this problem.”
Following Trump’s comments, Intel shares fell more than 4% in pre-market trading, as investor concerns mounted over potential political and national security ramifications.
Concerns about Tan’s ties to China had been building for months. In April 2025, a Reuters investigation revealed that Tan, either personally or through investment vehicles he founded or managed, had poured capital into hundreds of Chinese companies, including several operating in advanced manufacturing and semiconductor technologies.
