US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that diplomatic discussions with Iran focused on regional de-escalation and a potential ceasefire are still ongoing and moving at a rapid pace.
The statement contrasts directly with earlier reports from Iran’s state-run Tasnim News Agency, which claimed Tehran had suspended all indirect back-channel negotiations with Washington. According to Iranian media, the alleged freeze was sparked by Israel ordering its military forces to push deeper into Lebanese territory.
However, writing in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump pushed back against claims of a diplomatic breakdown.
"Talks are continuing and moving at a fast pace with the Islamic Republic," Trump posted.
The US President later reiterated his stance during two separate media interviews, firmly stating that he had received no official notification or brief indicating that Iran intended to suspend or freeze the ongoing diplomatic discussions with Washington.
While acknowledging the unpredictability of the complex geopolitical framework, Trump emphasized that the window for a resolution is now open.
"Nobody knows exactly where these talks will lead," Trump stated. "But I have told Iran that the time has come to make a deal, one way or the other."
The fluid nature of these indirect talks highlights a high-stakes diplomatic tightrope as Washington attempts to broker regional stability and a durable ceasefire amidst shifting military developments across the Middle East.
