U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing a short while ago, where he is expected to be received upon arrival by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, China's Ambassador to Washington Xie Feng, and Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu.
Also in attendance will be David Perdue, the U.S. envoy to Beijing. The official reception ceremony is expected to include approximately 300 Chinese youths, a military guard of honor, and a military band.
According to the Associated Press, the Trump administration hopes to initiate the process of establishing a trade council with China to address the disputes between the two nations.
This council may help prevent a resurgence of the trade war that erupted last year after Trump raised tariffs—a move China countered by tightening control over rare earth metals, leading to a year-long truce last October.
Speaking to reporters, Trump stated,"We have a lot of things to discuss... and I wouldn't say Iran is among them, to be honest with you, because we have the situation in Iran very much under control."
