U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Iran has released an American citizen detained since 2024 and allowed her to leave the country, expressing the United States' appreciation for what he described as a "gesture of goodwill" by Iran.

In a post on the "Truth Social" platform a short while ago, Trump stated that Iran had permitted a U.S. citizen—who had been "wrongfully" detained in December 2024 during the presidency of his predecessor, Joe Biden—to depart the country.

"She is now safely out of Iran and in good condition. The United States of America appreciates this gesture of goodwill from Iran!," Trump added.

He did not provide information regarding the citizen's identity or the circumstances surrounding her release.

This announcement comes at a time when the United States and Iran are exchanging strikes for the fifth consecutive day, following the collapse of a ceasefire last week due to Iranian attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
