Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged to grant permanent resident status to Ukrainian who came to Canada under a temporary migration program.

On Thursday morning, the Ukinform news agency quoted Trudeau as saying, “As regards the Ukrainians that have come here I know many of them are looking forward to going home and rebuilding. Many of them want to stay. They will be welcomed and continue to be extraordinary Canadians and proud Ukrainians at the same time.”

In general, over 135,000 Ukrainians arrived in Canada this year, although not all of them were refugees. In mid-March, the Federal Government granted over 470,000 special visa applications filed by Ukrainians.
