Trilateral Military Drills Begin in Sirte: Libya, U.S., and Italy Launch Joint Training

In a significant move toward enhancing regional security and professionalizing Libya's defense capabilities, joint military exercises between the Libyan National Army (LNA), the United States, and Italy officially commenced in the city of Sirte on Tuesday.

The opening ceremony was attended by Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Army. 

In his address, General Haftar emphasized that Libya is steadfast in its mission to build a professional, national military force capable of protecting the country’s sovereignty, people, and vast resources.Counter-Terrorism and Institutional BuildingThe drills are designed to build upon the successes of the Libyan military in its fight against terrorism and previous attempts to destabilize the state. 

General Haftar praised the sacrifices of the armed forces across Libya, noting their critical role in neutralizing extremist threats that once jeopardized both Libyan security and regional stability.International Strategic PartnershipThe exercise highlights deepening cooperation between Libya and Western powers. 

General Haftar extended his gratitude to the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) and the U.S. Embassy in Libya for their sustained coordination with the Libyan Armed Forces over several years.
