The Ministry of Transport announced that it has honored Tarek Mohamed Baras, a railway crossing guard at Al-Sadat crossing in Beni Suef, for his courage in saving the life of a young man who nearly fell beneath the wheels of an oncoming train.
According to an official statement, the incident occurred at 5:10 p.m. on Friday, when a young man attempted to cross the tracks while the gate was closed, ignoring safety signals. The guard, noticing the imminent danger, intervened swiftly and managed to pull the young man away from the path of train No. 2011, traveling from Aswan to Cairo.
Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport praised Baras for his vigilance and bravery, saying his actions exemplify dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to public service. The minister described him as “a role model for all employees of the ministry and the state.”
The ministry reiterated its call for citizens to exercise caution at railway crossings, strictly comply with railway authority instructions, and never attempt to cross when gates are closed or trains are approaching. It emphasized that violations, such as forcing entry through closed gates or walking against the designated direction, often lead to tragic accidents and loss of life.
