Severe disruptions have impacted the Eurostar train network between Brussels and London on Tuesday due to an incident in western Belgium, where a high-speed train collided with a tractor trailer at a crossing, according to the train company.
Five out of 18 scheduled trips for the day were canceled, including two from London to Brussels and three from Brussels to London, while the rest of the trains were delayed by approximately one hour.
The accident occurred when a high-speed train traveling from Brussels to the French city of Lille collided with a tractor trailer that had broken down at a crossing in the Picquie region, part of the Tournai municipality near the French border.
The collision resulted in injuries to two passengers on board the train. Emergency crews attended to the train driver who suffered from "shock," as reported by Infrabel, the company responsible for managing Belgium's rail infrastructure.
It was noted that the high-speed train was on an alternative route due to ongoing maintenance on the main line between Brussels and the French border, which is expected to continue until August 30th. An Infrabel spokesperson confirmed that "there is no crossing on the high-speed line."
