On Saturday, the Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games announced detecting a new Coronavirus case for an athlete, in addition to discovering new 17 COVID-19 cases among participants.

Therefore the total number of positive COVID-19 cases linked to the games increased to 123, according to Reuters.

The number of cases rapidly jumped after the Olympic Games officially started on Friday, July 23, after it was postponed due to Coronavirus last year.

Among the newly announced COVID-19 cases in Tokyo Games are two staff members alongside the athlete.

It is worth mentioning that the opening ceremony of the 2020 edition of the games took place yesterday with a limited audience including world leaders and VIP figures such as US First Lady Jill Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and the Japanese Emperor Naruhito.
