The top Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat, revealed, on Friday, that he is suffering from "difficult" symptoms after he was infected with the novel coronavirus.
Erekat, 65, a lawmaker from Jericho in the occupied West Bank, said on Twitter that he is in quarantine and is receiving medical treatment at home a day after confirming his infection with the virus.
The Palestinian official canceled all meetings and appointments. Hence, there is growing concern about his condition as he underwent a lung transplant in the United States in 2017.
In tweets on Twitter, Friday, the Palestinian top politician admitted that he was suffering from "difficult symptoms due to his lack of immunity as a result of a lung transplant." But he thanked everyone who called for him to be cured, noting that things were "under control".
Erekat is the Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and a member of Fatah, the organization’s strongest faction.
He is considered one of the most prominent figures in the Palestinian leadership for decades, especially for the international community.
In addition to his work as a veteran negotiator, Erekat is considered one of the most prominent advisers to President Mahmoud Abbas; he also held prominent positions during the era of the late former President Yasser Arafat.
